Back to reality...
In the words of Emily, back to reality. The holidays are over, vacations have come to an end and now we are hitting it hard. We returned from Oregon to mountains of laundry, piles of mail, alarm clocks and schedules but we also came back to two cute little yorkies, our own pillows and the comforts you can only find in your own home.
Emily is back to school and ballet. Kristin is back to work and the gym (and we are both back to getting cuddles with our fur babies). What does that mean for our closet? Stretchy pants, pointe shoes (for Emily, of course), the perfect school jeans and classic work wear. We giggle when we think about “regular clothes” vs. sweaty clothes but not so much when we are tackling those mountains of laundry and the sweaty clothes out-smell the regular ones. However, we have put together the best of both worlds and some of these items will knock your socks off with what they can do for you!
Emily’s school uniform is denim. We are both huge fans of Madewell and these high-rise skinnies in black with the button-fly are everything! Pair them with our new BP. Cozy Turtleneck sweater from Nordstrom followed by the ever coveted Converse and we have instant awesome. This backpack from Target is essential and, contrary to the reviews, holds up perfectly for light days when no books or binders are needed. Rounding up the must-have school items are: the superman of all water bottles, the Hydro Flask; the wonder woman of all phones (hmmmm, an iPhone?) complete with Popsocket; and the CC Beanie we raved about in our first blog.
Work wear can be boring, can be fashionable or can be kicked up a notch with a simple yet totally awesome handbag and the best boots EVER! Kristin loves the basics and Banana Republic has the best basic white dress shirt in their Riley fit. Slim, stretchy and perfect to tuck into the Leith high-rise wide leg pant from Nordstrom (mine sold out but similar here), super trendy |x| super classic, YAY! Finish this ensemble with a Madewell Transport Tote, still on sale at Nordstrom plus an absolutely amazing sock boot by Steve Madden and you have a classic yet stylish look you can feel good in all day long
On to the sweaty side of things. Emily is all things ballet all the time. Her favorite legging is the lululemon Wunder Under high-rise that she can slide over tights or transition to street wear with a turtleneck sweater. Pointe shoes are a very personal item but Emily likes her Russians (after trial and error with many other brands). We search constantly for cute yet well-fitting leo’s and Discount Dance steps it up with variety and price. Emily’s colorful Leo is well fitting and helps her stand out in auditions. Home Run!
Kristin hits the gym in some of her own lululemon gear. Ok, who are we kidding, a great game of tug-of-war ensues when we are talking lululemon! A must have for getting to the gym in the winter is the long sleeve Swiftly Tech. Fits perfect under jackets, stays put during workouts and, get this, NEVER SMELLS! Something to do with silver, which means less laundry because it can be worn over and over and over again. Okay maybe just twice, but still! Besides lululemon, we love our leggings from Athleta. If you haven’t tried their Salutation Tight with Powervita you are missing buttery soft stretchy pants with the perfect amount of compression. Underneath must haves include the Energy Bra from lululemon and you really should try their Namastay Put Hipster…just saying! Rounding out our must haves for the gym are these super light, super comfortable Adidas, a S'well water bottle and the always yummy after workout snack…a Quest bar!
We hope that you have loved reading about some of our favorites that are tried and true! Enjoy your reality one day at a time. We do!
